Blending Nutrition and Culinary Arts: My Functional Nutrition Credential

June 18, 2024 by Christina Shoup 4 Comments

Hi friends and family!

I have some exciting news to share – I recently completed training in an integrative and functional nutrition program and am now a board-certified functional nutritionist! If you’ve been here awhile or know me personally, you’ll understand this nutrition credential is a natural next step that combines my love of food and cooking with my passion for healthy living. Life truly is full circle – I went to college to study nutrition and dietetics before changing majors to early childhood education.  I have never regretted that decision but the interest in nutrition and all things food never left me.

As many of you know, I am also a professionally trained chef, cooking instructor and former elementary teacher. Life is too short for just one career! On the culinary side my focus has always been on sharing (mostly!) healthy recipes with others. This will certainly continue as a focus of the Food Family Friends blog but you will see a noticeable increase in sharing and educating about the nutritional benefits of individual ingredients that prevent and reverse common dietary and lifestyle-related diseases – aka Functional Nutrition.  This has interested me for a long time now and with deep learning and mentorship, I am more excited than ever to continue sharing more, and eventually work with clients on an individual basis.  It’s a fascinating and sensible approach to a life of good health and I’m beyond excited about this path forward.

Much more to come on this… stay tuned!

Cheers to good health,

Christina
